Ye Olde Saloon
About This Spot
Stepping into Ye Olde Saloon, you immediately sense the comfort of a well-worn neighborhood bar where the pace slows just enough to let you settle in. It’s the kind of place where familiar faces crowd the stools and chatter hums under the warm glow of dimmed lights. The atmosphere carries a genuine old-school vibe, balancing a lively buzz with a relaxed ease that makes you feel part of something steady and familiar.
From the hearty sizzle coming off the grill to the clink of draft glasses, the sounds pair perfectly with a menu that’s deeply rooted in classic bar & grill fare but always made with a thoughtful touch. Burgers here aren’t just a quick bite—they’re a moment to savor, whether you’re customizing with a little kick of jalapeños or enjoying one of their signature creations. The sides—crispy fries, tater tots, and golden onion rings—feel like an affectionate nod to comfort food at its most satisfying.
The bartenders and staff bring a warmth that transcends efficient service; there’s a genuine friendliness and a sense that regulars and newcomers alike are equally welcome. Even on busy nights, the flow remains smooth and unhurried, letting you enjoy your evening without feeling rushed. This is a spot where late-night conversations blend seamlessly with great drinks—from a straightforward draft beer to a carefully crafted cocktail—and a menu that invites sharing and discovery.
Parking is easy, the location accessible, and the crowd consistently reflects a cross-section of Royal Oak’s community—people who come for the steady vibe, the honest food, and the moments created over a shared table. Ye Olde Saloon is quietly proud of its decades-long presence, not by flashing its history but by embodying that timeless feeling of coming home to familiar tastes, sounds, and smiles.

I came here with a friend for dinner. It came highly recommended. It did not disappoint. The burgers were very good, fries and onion rings were just as good. The service was solid for a busy night during the late evening hours. There was plenty of parking and it was easily accessible. If you are up for some good old bar food, this is your place.

Ye Olde Saloon is an absolute Royal Oak classic. This place has been around since 1975—I was five years old when it opened—and it’s still going strong for a reason. Incredible burgers, great drinks, and that perfect old-school dive bar vibe you just can’t fake. It’s the kind of place that feels comfortable the second you walk in. The atmosphere is always solid, and the staff is amazing—friendly, attentive, and clearly proud of the place. Whether you’re grabbing a burger, having a few drinks, or just soaking in the history, Ye Olde Saloon never disappoints. If you’re in downtown Royal Oak and haven’t been here, you’re seriously missing out.

This is the best place. Patty is a great chef. Justin won’t let you in without a I’d even if you know him. Natalie is a great bartender and super nice. Kaitlin is also legit but not as experienced as Natalie.

By far one of the best bar burgers I've ever had. And the cake of the week was banana pudding? WOW absolutely incredible. Shout out to my boy with the dreads for holding down the entire bar as the new server was trained. $38 for the whole tab? We'll 100% be back.

Came for late night beers & some food (bonus for being midnight walking in) after our flight & drive to Airbnb. Bartender was friendly & great, food was great, my dad had a phenomenal bacon on a stick. Good tap list, great dive.

I just got back from Chicago, & this place made me wonder why I even left home. It’s funner than any bar in the Loop. It has more girls & just a way cooler vibe. Their signature cheeseburger & fries were good too & under $12! Def. one of the best dive-bars in Metro-Detroit.
